Conditioners for Natural Hair Pt. 1

The hardest thing about living in a dry state is finding products that not only make your hair look good but also keep it MOISTURIZED. Curly girlies, at More Than Curly Salon we have done the hard work for you and I am happy to share with you what we have found to be the most moisturizing conditioners for natural hair! Let’s get into it!!

There are three types of conditioning treatments that I will go over in this series of posts: Leave-In Conditioners, Comb Through/Shower Conditioners, and Deep Conditioning Treatments. This post will be all about Leave-In Conditioners!

Things to Consider

There are two things you really want to pay attention to when choosing a leave-in conditioner: 1) Is it right for your texture and 2) The condition or state of your hair. Some conditioners are heavier than others so you want to make sure that the one you choose will be both hydrating and light enough to avoid weighing down the hair.

💡Keep in mind that your shampoo matters too. Products work in conjunction with one another. Check out my post on Shampoos for Natural Hair for more info 🙂

I Have Fine Hair, The Illusion is Real

If you’re like me, your hair is pretty fine but it LOOKS like you have way more…until your hair is wet and the truth is revealed haha Here are some conditioners that won’t weigh your hair down, but will provide an adequate amount of hydration!

  1. Ouidad Whipped Curls
  2. Oligo Perfecting Primer
  3. Loma Moisturizing Treatment

Ouidad Whipped Curls is nice and light and serves as a great primer for styling your curls as well as blowouts! It’s very nourishing and contains green tea making it a great product for wearing your hair both curly and straight.

For my friends who pay extra attention to ingredients, the bottom two are great options because they are vegan, sulfate-free, paraben-free, and gluten-free! The Loma Moisturizing Treatment is also soy-free on top of everything else. You can’t go wrong with any of these products, and they all smell SO.GOOD. 🤌🏾

I Have Thick Hair or My Hair is SUPER Dry

Now for my friends who have either tighter textures or just have A LOT of hair that needs some extra hydration, the following options are going to change your life!

  1. Moroccanoil Intense Hydrating Mask
  2. Loma Deep Conditioner

Okay so the Moroccanoil Intense Hydrating Mask is probably the Holy Grail of conditioners for natural hair that you can find in stores right now. In Colorado, it is so damn dry here that we need to go as far as using a MASK as a conditioner! Now I know what you’re thinking, is it safe to use a hair mask in my hair all day as a leave-in conditioner?

Usually the answer is no, but in this case the answer is yes! Both the Moroccanoil Intense Hydrating Mask and the Loma Deep Conditioner are safe to leave in your hair because they do not contain an overwhelming amount of protein which could damage your hair!

The Loma Deep Conditioner is a very dense and concentrated formula, so for my girlies with hair to the gods, this is a special product. Similar to its fellow product, Moisturizing Treatment, this conditioner is vegan and free of all the things (sulfates, parabens, gluten, and soy).

Final Thoughts

I hope that these options gave you a place to start when searching for your new leave-in conditioner! Remember that these are products specifically selected as optimal options for dry climates like Colorado. I have personally used, and seen all of these products utilized by Curl Experts on several textures so believe me when I tell you, they work sis. I’ll continue to update this post as we discover more products so that you can sit back and relax while the team at More Than Curly do all the hard work!

Have you tried any of these? Drop your thoughts in the comments below 🙂 Talk to ya’ll soon!

Love,

Jordan
